We are very happy to release this Special Issue on the Temples of Bengal (from the Ancient Period to the 19th Century). It has been quite an experience for us working with the issue—exciting and tough at the same time. The topics relating to this are many and the areas are vast. We planned to follow a holistic approach to it and laid down some selected areas. We also encouraged the contributors to add new topics if possible. We got moderate response compared to the number of contributors we contacted for writing for the magazine. We could not cover some very important areas, especially the temples of Bardhaman, Hooghly and Malda. But we must say that the contributors who came forward made us proud with the variety and richness of their scholarship and hard work. It is also interesting to see that contributors from varied age group and varied fields approached the topics from various perspectives, adding much value to the edition. We have arranged the writings from general to particular topics; we have also included some galleries and a book review. We are sure this edition will add certain new elements to the existing scholarship, arouse some interest and facilitate further research. Finally, we would be only too happy to receive feedback from readers.
